Each week we will Spotlight an Etowah County High School. The Big Jack Scoreboard Show hosts will visit the school and award plaques from Southside Trophy and other prizes to the Scholar Athlete, Student, Fan, Band Member and Cheerleader of the week…plus we’ll shower the stands with t-shirts and rally towels from Academy Sports, Mountain Dew, Etowah County Sheriff's Department and Z-93.1.
It is hard to grasp that we already have five weeks of high school football action in the books! What a great week it was though. To kick it off, we had a great time with the people out in Yellow Jacket country. Special thanks to Principal Charlton Giles, and Head Coach Lee Ozmint for having us, as we featured Glencoe High School as our spotlight school of the week! Also, congrats again to our individual award winners. T Shirts were flying, beach balls bouncing, and towels soaring everywhere into the stands, thanks to our fellow sponsors Academy Sports and Outdoors, Mt. Dew, the Etowah County Sheriffs Office, and Jacks. Things only got more exciting as the cleats met the leather and the games were underway. Both Westbrook and Glencoe came away with big Non-Region wins in the broadcast on both Z93.1 and New/Talk 570 WAAX. As soon as the games were over, it was time to cue the Big Jacks Scoreboard show. We had several nail bitters to follow, games that went down to the wire as well as a few blowouts to report. Gadsden city put forth a valiant effort on the road against one of the top teams in the state, in Auburn, Alabama. The Southside Panthers also went down to the wire, coming through at the last minute, literally, going for it on forth down and finding the end zone, to preserve their thus far undefeated season! Oxford was also locked into a battle with power house Pinson, coming out on top 26-20. The Panthers were not the only team in the listening area though to move on to 5-0. The Etowah Blue Devils, Saks Wildcats, Sardis Lions, Piedmont Bulldogs, and Ranburn Bulldogs all went the first half of the season without a loss! It is getting into that time of year where we begin to take a look at the developing playoff picture, so we looked at where teams in each of the area regions stand currently. And of course there was you! The callers, who make the show what it is. Thank you for your calls, scores, and information. A special thanks to Coaches Jonathan Miller, Tony Osborn, Lee Ozmint, and Ron Daugherty, for taking the time to speak with us on the show. Also thanks to coach Lee Vincent for talking to us about the big visit from University of Auburn Head Coach Gus Malzahn to Southside High School. As optimistic, glass full kind of people, we do not look at it that half the season has elapsed, but rather that we have a lot more exciting football action to go! There are plenty of ways to keep up with the action, and interact with us! Look for us as we are out and about at the games, keep up with us right here on the web site, through our social media, call in the Scoreboard show and become a part of all the action and excitement! I hope you are having as much fun this year as we are!
