Week 1

Season 6 for the FFE has officially begun and what a week of games! Southside is out of the gate with a big win over Hokes Bluff in the “Old County Game” which marks the start of it all. A good bit of our local area teams all played on Thursday night. Etowah gets their first win of the season against the Valley Cubs of Alexandria. Sounds like things are going quite well for Coach McCorkle and company. Jacksonville High School gets a win to start the Coach Clint Smith era and Fort Payne did a number on North Jackson. Friday night featured a huge win for Coach Osborne as Westbrook pulls an upset over Glencoe. This game said a lot for the not much talked about defense of the Warriors who held off the Yellow Jackets offense. Westbrook was our spotlight school of the week and we had a great time there amongst the fans. Kudos to Ashville and new Head Coach Obryant with their big cross town rivalry win against Springville. We got to talk to the humble coach who feels very blessed to be where he is at and believes in the fact that his kids have truly found the key in being a team. Oneonta got a huge win against Pinson Valley, Gadsden City gets a game winning field goal with five seconds left in the game and Oxford goes across state lines to get a victory against Carrollton. We are also keeping our eye on the Clay Chalkville Cougars who are playing with a purpose this year after the forfeiting of last years game that put them out of the playoffs. They beat Hewitt Trussville 51-10! If week one is any indication of how this season is going to be, then we’re in for a great one! Be sure to tune in to the FFE on Friday night after the games on Z93.1 and Newstalk 570 Big WAAX!
